The vulnerabilities allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via crafted content. The affected components are related to various python scripts including Page.py, PageEditor.py, PageGraphicalEditor.py, action/CopyPage.py, action/Load.py, action/RenamePage.py, action/backup.py, action/login.py, action/newaccount.py, and action/recoverpass.py.
Overview
MoinMoin is a widely used, advanced, easy to use and extensible WikiEngine with a large community of users. The identified vulnerabilities can be exploited by remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting attacks. These vulnerabilities are due to insufficient input validation in the affected software.
Remediation
Users are advised to upgrade to the latest versions of the software, which are MoinMoin 1.8.8 and 1.9.3, where the vulnerabilities have been fixed. It is also recommended to always follow secure coding practices to prevent such vulnerabilities, including proper input validation and sanitization.
