CVE-2010-2957 is a security vulnerability that affects Serendipity before version 1.5.4. The vulnerability is a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue that occurs when "Remember me" logins are enabled. This allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via unspecified vectors. The impact of this vulnerability is high as it can lead to a compromise of the user's session and can lead to unauthorized actions being performed on their behalf.
Overview
Serendipity is a PHP-powered weblog application which gives the user an easy way to maintain an online diary, weblog or even a complete homepage. The vulnerability is caused due to insufficient input validation when handling user-supplied data. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.
Remediation
Users of Serendipity are advised to upgrade to version 1.5.4 or later to address this vulnerability. It is also recommended to disable "Remember me" logins until the upgrade can be performed.
