The ISAPI Filter plug-in in Websense Enterprise, Websense Web Security, and Websense Web Filter versions 6.3.3 and earlier, when used with Microsoft ISA or Microsoft Forefront TMG servers, allows attackers to circumvent intended filtering and monitoring of web traffic by exploiting an HTTP Via header.

Overview

This vulnerability in Websense products enables remote attackers to evade security controls and monitoring mechanisms, potentially leading to unauthorized access or data leakage. The issue arises from improper handling of HTTP headers, specifically the Via header, which can be manipulated to bypass the intended security measures.

Remediation

To mitigate this vulnerability, users are advised to update their Websense Enterprise, Websense Web Security, and Websense Web Filter installations to versions that address this issue. Additionally, organizations should consider implementing additional security measures to complement the software patch, such as network segmentation and intrusion detection systems.
