Description Preview
The vulnerability in CHICKEN Scheme stable before version 4.8.0.5 and development snapshots before 4.8.3 is due to a buffer overflow in the "read-string!" procedure in the "extras" unit. By providing a specific input, such as a "#f" value in the NUM argument, remote attackers can trigger memory corruption leading to a denial of service condition and potentially execute arbitrary code on the affected system.
Overview
This vulnerability in CHICKEN Scheme allows remote attackers to exploit a buffer overflow in the "read-string!" procedure, potentially leading to a denial of service and arbitrary code execution.
Remediation
To remediate this vulnerability, users are advised to update their CHICKEN Scheme installation to version 4.8.0.5 or later. By upgrading to a patched version, the buffer overflow issue in the "read-string!" procedure can be mitigated, reducing the risk of exploitation by malicious actors.
