Description Preview

Erlang/OTP before version 18.0-rc1 does not properly check CBC padding bytes when terminating connections, making it susceptible to a padding oracle attack. This vulnerability enables attackers to intercept and decrypt cleartext data by exploiting the padding mechanism, similar to the CVE-2014-3566 vulnerability known as POODLE.

Overview

This vulnerability in Erlang/OTP affects versions prior to 18.0-rc1 and allows for the interception and decryption of cleartext data through a padding oracle attack. Attackers can exploit this flaw to obtain sensitive information transmitted over the network.

Remediation

To remediate this vulnerability, users are advised to update their Erlang/OTP installations to version 18.0-rc1 or later. By upgrading to a patched version, the CBC padding issue is addressed, preventing attackers from exploiting the padding oracle vulnerability.
