Ring (formerly DoorBot) video doorbells are vulnerable to a security issue that allows remote attackers to access sensitive information about the wireless network configuration by pressing the set up button and leveraging an API in the GainSpan Wi-Fi module.
Overview
This vulnerability in Ring video doorbells enables attackers to gather details about the wireless network setup, potentially leading to unauthorized access to the network. By exploiting this flaw, attackers can compromise the security and privacy of the network and its users.
Remediation
To mitigate this vulnerability, users of Ring video doorbells should ensure they have applied the latest firmware updates provided by the vendor. Additionally, users should change default passwords and ensure strong, unique passwords are used for network access. It is also recommended to restrict physical access to the device to prevent unauthorized individuals from pressing the set up button.
