Description Preview

The Uji Countdown WordPress plugin versions prior to 2.0.7 contain a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. This security flaw allows attackers to inject malicious scripts that can be executed in users' browsers when they view affected pages. The vulnerability could potentially lead to theft of sensitive information, session hijacking, or other malicious actions performed in the context of the affected user's browser.

Overview

The Uji Countdown plugin is a WordPress extension that allows website administrators to add customizable countdown timers to their sites. The vulnerability (CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) exists due to insufficient input validation or output encoding, allowing an attacker to inject client-side scripts into web pages viewed by other users. When these scripts execute in a victim's browser, they can access cookies, session tokens, or other sensitive information retained by the browser and used with that site. This vulnerability affects all installations of the Uji Countdown plugin prior to version 2.0.7.

Remediation

To remediate this vulnerability, website administrators should immediately update the Uji Countdown plugin to version 2.0.7 or later. The update can be performed through the WordPress admin dashboard by navigating to the Plugins section and applying available updates. If automatic updates are not possible, manual installation of the latest version from the WordPress plugin repository is recommended. After updating, administrators should review their website for any signs of compromise and consider changing administrative passwords as a precautionary measure.
