Remediation

  • Upgrade to the patched IBM API Connect release per IBM advisory swg22004981 to fix CVE-2017-1386.
  • Apply all related IBM security updates or cumulative fixes for API Connect.
  • Ensure all password-related traffic is protected with TLS (enable TLS 1.2+, disable deprecated protocols, and use strong cipher suites).
  • Enforce server-side password policy validation to prevent bypass via client-side configurations.
  • Strengthen defenses against MITM (consider certificate validation rigor, mutual TLS or certificate pinning where feasible) and monitor authentication logs for unusual activity; rotate any potentially affected credentials if needed.
