Description Preview

A vulnerability exists in NetApp OnCommand API Services prior to 2.1 and NetApp Service Level Manager prior to 1.0RC4 where privileged database user account passwords are logged, potentially exposing sensitive authentication credentials to unauthorized users.

Overview

This vulnerability (CVE-2017-15518) is classified as an information exposure issue (CWE-200) affecting NetApp OnCommand API Services and NetApp Service Level Manager. The affected software versions log privileged database user account passwords, which could potentially be accessed by unauthorized individuals. This could lead to unauthorized database access if these logs are compromised. The vulnerability affects all versions of OnCommand API Services prior to version 2.1 and all versions of NetApp Service Level Manager prior to version 1.0RC4.

Remediation

Users are strongly advised to upgrade to the fixed versions:

  • OnCommand API Services version 2.1 or later
  • NetApp Service Level Manager version 1.0RC4 or later

No additional action is required after upgrading, as the affected password is automatically changed during every upgrade or installation process. This automatic password rotation during installation/upgrade mitigates the risk from previously exposed passwords.
