An issue was discovered in the com.getdropbox.Dropbox app 100.2 for iOS. The LAContext class for Biometric (TouchID) validation allows authentication bypass by overriding the LAContext return Boolean value to be "true" because the kSecAccessControlUserPresence protection mechanism is not used. This vulnerability enables an attacker to authenticate using any fingerprint, potentially compromising the security of the application.
Overview
This vulnerability affects the com.getdropbox.Dropbox app version 100.2 for iOS, allowing unauthorized access through biometric authentication bypass. The issue was reported on June 13, 2018, and is assigned the CVE ID CVE-2018-12271. The vulnerability is considered disputed as the vendor indicates that it is not an attack of interest within their threat model, excluding iOS devices with jailbreaks.
Remediation
To remediate this vulnerability, it is recommended to update the com.getdropbox.Dropbox app to a version that addresses the authentication bypass issue. Users should ensure they are running the latest version of the application to mitigate the risk of unauthorized access through biometric authentication manipulation.
