Overview
The vulnerability affects the signature validation functionality in Teradici PCoIP Standard Agent for Windows and Graphics Agent for Windows. The affected component does not properly verify the signature of an external binary before execution, which creates a security gap. An attacker could potentially exploit this vulnerability by providing a malicious binary that would be executed with the elevated privileges of the PCoIP Agent process. This could lead to privilege escalation, unauthorized access to sensitive information, or further system compromise. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-345 (Insufficient Verification of Data Authenticity).
Remediation
Users should upgrade to Teradici PCoIP Standard Agent for Windows and Graphics Agent for Windows version 20.04.1 or later, which contains the fix for this vulnerability. If immediate upgrading is not possible, consider implementing the following temporary mitigations:
- Restrict access to the affected systems to trusted users only
- Monitor for suspicious activities related to the PCoIP Agent process
- Implement strong access controls and principle of least privilege for all user accounts
- Ensure all systems are protected by up-to-date antivirus and endpoint protection solutions
