Description Preview

TP-LINK NC200, NC210, NC220, NC230, NC250, NC260, and NC450 cloud camera models contain a buffer overflow vulnerability that could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code. The vulnerability affects multiple firmware versions up to builds released on April 1, 2020.

Overview

This vulnerability (CVE-2020-13224) affects multiple TP-LINK cloud camera models in the NC series. The affected devices and firmware versions include:

  • NC200 devices through 2.1.10 build 200401
  • NC210 devices through 1.0.10 build 200401
  • NC220 devices through 1.3.1 build 200401
  • NC230 devices through 1.3.1 build 200401
  • NC250 devices through 1.3.1 build 200401
  • NC260 devices through 1.5.3 build_200401
  • NC450 devices through 1.5.4 build 200401

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-120 (Buffer Copy without Checking Size of Input), which could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service by overflowing the buffer with specially crafted input. This could potentially lead to complete compromise of the affected device.

Remediation

To mitigate this vulnerability, users should:

  1. Update firmware to the latest version available from TP-LINK's official website.
  2. If updates are not available, consider implementing network segmentation to isolate the vulnerable cameras.
  3. Restrict network access to the cameras, allowing only trusted IP addresses to connect.
  4. Monitor for unusual activity on the network that might indicate exploitation attempts.
  5. Check TP-LINK's security advisory page regularly for updates on this vulnerability.
