Overview
Marvell QConvergeConsole is a management tool for Marvell Fibre Channel adapters. The vulnerability affects version 5.5.0.64 and potentially earlier versions. The root cause is improper validation of user-supplied paths in the getFileFromURL method of the GWTTestServiceImpl class. This path traversal vulnerability allows attackers to read or write files outside of the intended directory, which can be leveraged to achieve arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability is particularly severe because:
- It allows code execution with SYSTEM privileges
- The existing authentication mechanism can be bypassed
- The attack can be performed remotely
Remediation
To address this vulnerability, organizations should:
- Update to the latest version of Marvell QConvergeConsole as recommended by Marvell in their security advisory
- If immediate patching is not possible, consider:
- Restricting network access to the QConvergeConsole application
- Implementing network segmentation to limit access to management interfaces
- Monitoring for suspicious activities related to QConvergeConsole
- Deploying additional authentication mechanisms or access controls in front of the application
- Review logs for any signs of exploitation attempts
- Follow the specific guidance provided in the Marvell Fibre Channel Security Advisory 2020-07
