Description Preview

A memory disclosure vulnerability has been identified in the ESI (Edge Side Includes) plugin of Apache Traffic Server. This vulnerability affects Apache Traffic Server versions 7.0.0 to 7.1.11 and 8.0.0 to 8.1.0. When the ESI plugin is enabled, it could potentially disclose sensitive memory information to unauthorized users.

Overview

The Apache Traffic Server ESI plugin contains a vulnerability that could lead to the disclosure of memory contents. ESI is a markup language used for assembling dynamic web pages on an edge server. When exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to access sensitive information stored in memory, potentially including credentials, session tokens, or other confidential data. Organizations running affected versions of Apache Traffic Server with the ESI plugin enabled are at risk of data exposure.

Remediation

Users of Apache Traffic Server who have the ESI plugin enabled should immediately upgrade to the following patched versions:

  • For 7.x series: Upgrade to version 7.1.12 or later
  • For 8.x series: Upgrade to version 8.1.1 or later

If an immediate upgrade is not possible, consider temporarily disabling the ESI plugin until the system can be updated to a patched version. After upgrading, verify that the ESI plugin is functioning correctly with the new version.
