Description Preview

CVE-2020-1932 affects Apache Superset versions 0.34.0, 0.34.1, 0.35.0, and 0.35.1. The vulnerability exists in an unused and undocumented API endpoint that allows authenticated users to retrieve sensitive information about other users in the system, including their hashed passwords. This information disclosure vulnerability could potentially lead to unauthorized access if an attacker is able to crack the hashed passwords.

Overview

Apache Superset is an open-source data exploration and visualization platform. The vulnerability (CVE-2020-1932) allows authenticated users to access an undocumented API endpoint that was not properly secured. Through this endpoint, attackers can retrieve sensitive user information including hashed passwords of other users in the system. This represents a significant information disclosure risk that could potentially lead to account takeovers if the hashed passwords are successfully cracked.

Remediation

Organizations using affected versions of Apache Superset (0.34.0, 0.34.1, 0.35.0, and 0.35.1) should upgrade to a patched version immediately. If upgrading is not immediately possible, consider implementing additional network controls to restrict access to the Superset instance and closely monitor for any suspicious API access patterns. Additionally, after upgrading, it is recommended to reset all user passwords as a precautionary measure since previous passwords may have been compromised.
