Description Preview

The WP Image Zoom WordPress plugin before version 1.47 contains a Local File Inclusion (LFI) vulnerability in the admin dashboard. The plugin fails to properly validate the 'tab' parameter before using it in the include_once() function, allowing attackers with access to the admin dashboard to include arbitrary files from the local system.

Overview

The WP Image Zoom plugin for WordPress enhances image functionality by adding zoom capabilities to images on WordPress websites. In versions prior to 1.47, the plugin contains a critical security flaw where it does not properly validate the 'tab' parameter in the admin dashboard. This parameter is directly used in the include_once() PHP function without sufficient sanitization, which can lead to local file inclusion. An attacker with administrative access could potentially exploit this vulnerability to include and execute arbitrary files on the server, access sensitive information, or potentially achieve remote code execution depending on the server configuration.

Remediation

To address this vulnerability, website administrators should:

  1. Update the WP Image Zoom plugin to version 1.47 or later immediately.
  2. If immediate updating is not possible, consider temporarily disabling the plugin until it can be updated.
  3. Implement proper access controls to limit administrative dashboard access to trusted users only.
  4. Review server logs for any suspicious activity that might indicate exploitation attempts.
  5. Consider implementing a Web Application Firewall (WAF) that can help protect against LFI attacks.
