Overview
This vulnerability (CVE-2021-31928) affects the Annex Cloud Loyalty Experience Platform, a customer loyalty and engagement solution used by many organizations. The vulnerability allows any authenticated user, regardless of their assigned role or permission level, to elevate their privileges to superadministrator status. With superadministrator access, an attacker could potentially access sensitive customer data, modify system configurations, create additional administrative accounts, or perform other unauthorized actions within the platform. This represents a significant security risk for organizations using vulnerable versions of the platform, as it effectively bypasses the intended access control mechanisms.
Remediation
To address this vulnerability, organizations using Annex Cloud Loyalty Experience Platform should:
- Upgrade immediately to version 2021.1.0.2 or later, which contains the fix for this vulnerability.
- Conduct a security audit to determine if any unauthorized privilege escalation has occurred.
- Review administrative user accounts to ensure no unauthorized accounts were created.
- Monitor system logs for any suspicious activities that might indicate exploitation of this vulnerability.
- Consider implementing additional access controls and monitoring solutions to detect potential privilege escalation attempts.
- Contact Annex Cloud support for additional guidance if needed.
