Description Preview

Wipro Holmes Orchestrator 20.4.1 (20.4.1_02_11_2020) contains a critical authentication bypass vulnerability (CWE-306) that allows remote attackers to download sensitive files without authentication. The vulnerability affects several API endpoints related to report downloads, enabling unauthorized access to sensitive information such as domain credentials, user data, process details, infrastructure information, and resolver reports.

Overview

This vulnerability in Wipro Holmes Orchestrator 20.4.1 stems from a lack of proper authentication controls on specific API endpoints. The affected APIs include processexecution/DownloadExcelFile/Domain_Credential_Report_Excel, processexecution/DownloadExcelFile/User_Report_Excel, processexecution/DownloadExcelFile/Process_Report_Excel, processexecution/DownloadExcelFile/Infrastructure_Report_Excel, and processexecution/DownloadExcelFile/Resolver_Report_Excel. An unauthenticated attacker can directly access these endpoints to download sensitive Excel reports containing confidential information. This represents a serious security risk as it could expose domain credentials and other sensitive organizational data to unauthorized parties.

Remediation

Organizations using Wipro Holmes Orchestrator 20.4.1 should:

  1. Update to the latest version of the software if a patched version is available
  2. Implement proper authentication checks for all API endpoints, especially those handling sensitive data
  3. Consider implementing additional security layers such as API gateways or web application firewalls to restrict access to these endpoints
  4. Audit all access logs to determine if unauthorized access has occurred
  5. Reset any credentials that may have been exposed through these reports
  6. Contact Wipro support for specific patch information if not already provided
