Description Preview

Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Cisco Small Business RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, and RV325 Routers could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary script in a user's browser session. The vulnerabilities exist due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input in the web-based management interface. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a user to visit a specially crafted webpage.

Overview

These vulnerabilities affect the web-based management interface of several Cisco Small Business RV Series Routers. The issue stems from insufficient input validation, allowing an attacker to send crafted HTTP requests to the affected device and then trick users into visiting specific web pages containing malicious payloads. If successful, the attacker could execute arbitrary script code within the context of the affected interface or access sensitive browser-based information.

The affected devices include:

  • Cisco RV016 Multi-WAN VPN Router
  • Cisco RV042 Dual WAN VPN Router
  • Cisco RV042G Dual Gigabit WAN VPN Router
  • Cisco RV082 Dual WAN VPN Router
  • Cisco RV320 Dual Gigabit WAN VPN Router
  • Cisco RV325 Dual Gigabit WAN VPN Router

Remediation

As of the advisory publication, Cisco has not released software updates that address these vulnerabilities. There are no workarounds available to mitigate these vulnerabilities.

Administrators should implement the following best practices to help reduce risk:

  • Limit access to the web-based management interface to trusted administrators only
  • Use strong network segmentation to isolate management interfaces from untrusted networks
  • Implement proper access control lists to restrict access to the management interface
  • Educate users about the risks of clicking on untrusted links and visiting suspicious websites
  • Consider using alternative management methods if available
