Description Preview

The Danfoss AK-EM100 web applications contain a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability (CWE-79). This vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts that execute in a victim's browser when they visit specially crafted URLs. The injected code runs within the context of the vulnerable application, potentially allowing attackers to steal session cookies, capture credentials, or perform actions on behalf of the victim user.

Overview

The Danfoss AK-EM100, which is used for energy monitoring in refrigeration systems, contains a reflected XSS vulnerability in its web interface. This vulnerability occurs when user input is not properly sanitized before being included in the web page response. When a user clicks on a malicious link crafted by an attacker, the injected script executes in the user's browser with the privileges of the vulnerable application. This can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive information, session hijacking, or further attacks against the application and its users.

Remediation

  1. Update to the latest firmware version provided by Danfoss that addresses this vulnerability.
  2. If updates are not available, consider implementing network-level protections:
    • Restrict access to the AK-EM100 web interface to only trusted networks and users
    • Use a web application firewall (WAF) to filter potential XSS attacks
    • Implement proper network segmentation to isolate control systems
  3. Educate users about the risks of clicking on suspicious links, especially those pointing to internal systems
  4. Monitor system logs for unusual access patterns or attempted exploitation
