Description Preview

Auto Dealer Management System v1.0 contains a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the /classes/SystemSettings.php file. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by injecting malicious JavaScript code via the name parameter in the update_settings function. When successful, the injected code executes in the context of other users' browsers, potentially leading to session hijacking, credential theft, or other client-side attacks.

Overview

The Auto Dealer Management System v1.0 is vulnerable to a reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attack (CWE-79). The vulnerability exists in the SystemSettings.php file, specifically in the update_settings function that processes the name parameter without proper input validation or output encoding. This allows attackers to inject arbitrary JavaScript code that executes when viewed by users with elevated privileges, such as administrators. Successful exploitation could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or complete compromise of the application through admin account takeover.

Remediation

To remediate this vulnerability, implement the following measures:

  1. Apply proper input validation for the name parameter in the SystemSettings.php file
  2. Implement context-aware output encoding when displaying user-supplied data
  3. Consider implementing Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to mitigate XSS attacks
  4. Update to a newer version of the Auto Dealer Management System if available
  5. Apply the principle of least privilege for all user roles in the application
  6. Consider using security libraries or frameworks that automatically handle XSS protection
