The vulnerability is caused by uncontrolled recursion (CWE-674) in Xpdf 4.05 and earlier versions. The issue arises when a PDF object loop in an object stream leads to infinite recursion and a stack overflow. This vulnerability can be exploited locally and it requires high attack complexity.
