Description Preview

The floor plan feature in Copeland LP E3 Supervisory Control (firmware < 2.31F01) accepts uploaded floor plan files without sufficient validation or sanitization. An unauthenticated attacker can upload a maliciously crafted floor plan file that embeds executable script or payloads which are persisted and later rendered in the floorplan web interface, resulting in stored XSS. Successful exploitation requires only network access to the device web interface and user interaction when a victim views the compromised floorplan; impacts include client-side code execution in the context of the device web UI, potential credential theft, session hijacking, or further UI-driven attacks.

Overview

This is an unauthenticated, network-accessible stored XSS stemming from unrestricted file upload (CWE-434) in E3 Supervisory Control floorplan handling. The vulnerability has a CVSSv4 base score of 5.1 (MEDIUM) and allows remote attackers to persist JavaScript in the device’s web UI (CAPEC-592). Affected firmware versions are any release earlier than 2.31F01.

Remediation

Apply the vendor fix by upgrading E3 Supervisory Control firmware to version 2.31F01 or later. If immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict access to the device management interface (ETH0) using VLANs, network segmentation, and firewall rules to ensure the interface is not accessible from untrusted networks. Additionally, disable or remove public access to the floorplan upload functionality where feasible and implement input validation or file type restrictions on uploads as longer-term mitigations.
